About Us
The WI movement started in 1915 and has been a continuous force helping women of all ages and backgrounds to deal with modern day life. It is currently undergoing a resurgence in popularity and as an organisation we are seeing more and more younger members joining all the time. The current trend for all things home-made, including baking, knitting, patchwork etc. has led to a renewal in the traditional crafts. Many WI members possess these skills and are happy to share.
It is worth noting that the WI isn't just "Jam and Jerusalem" or even semi-nude ladies on calendars! It is also a voice for women's issues and those matters women feel strongly about. It operates within the political arena, and in the past has lobbied strongly on matters as diverse as food labelling and packaging, the plight of the honey bee, the foot and mouth outbreak, violence against women and the smoking ban!
We are a non-political, non-religious organisation and we would love to welcome you to one of our meetings. If you are interested, please get in touch with us using the contact us page.
